About

On Diversity is a place where we hope students can talk openly in a fresh, honest way about issues of race, ethnicity, culture, and religion. The blog is sponsored by The UltraViolet and the Marlborough club Common Ground.

The opening post, by Julie ‘09, demonstrates what we’re aiming at here. We want people to talk about diversity in ways that are more challenging than we are used to — we want people to face up to their true feelings. Too often, in the name of political correctness, we are afraid to deal with diversity issues head on, and the real story stays hidden. We’d like to strip away some of the rhetoric and talk straight. “Straight” doesn’t mean we can’t still be sensitive and polite in how we say what we say, and the blog sponsors will moderate postings to make sure that “straight” doesn’t turn into “in your face.” If we want people to be honest, we need to support that honesty.
